Today, July 20th, our Church shines brightly as we honor the memory of one of the most imposing, fiery, and beloved figures of the Old Testament: the Holy and Glorious Prophet Elijah the Tishbite.

Prophet Elijah was not merely a prophet; he was the "springtime of the Prophets", the man who was deemed worthy to converse with God on Mount Horeb, to appear beside Christ at the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor, and to be taken up into the heavens in a chariot of fire, awaiting the Second Coming.

Throughout Greece, the chapels dedicated to Prophet Elijah dominate the highest mountain peaks, symbolizing his closeness to Heaven and his unending spiritual vision.

On Mount Athos, the veneration of Prophet Elijah is deeply mystical. On the majestic, rugged peak of Athos at an altitude of 2,033 meters stands the historic chapel of the Transfiguration and Prophet Elijah, where the Athonite fathers celebrate vigils that touch the heavens.
