Περιγραφη

Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint Euphrosynus the Cook in pine wood with carved decoration.

Saint Euphrosynos was an illiterate villager who decided to leave the worldly and become a monk. Due to his humble origin and simplicity he became the laughing stock of his companions. The Saint endured the ridicule with prudence and meekness and served the other monks as a cook.

One night a priest who was in the monastery, saw a vision with Euphrosynus offering him three apples in the Garden of God. The morning he woke up, he was surprised to see three apples in his bag and told the story to the monks. They then glorified God and repented of their insults to the Saint. When they sought Euphrosynos, he had left the monastery to avoid glory. His memory is celebrated by the Orthodox Christian Church on September 11 of each year.
