Περιγραφη
Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint Iphigenia the Virgin Martyr in pine wood with carved decoration.
Saint Iphigenia was born in 53 AD. in Tokat, Pontus, Asia Minor by pagan parents, who later, with the help of the Apostle Andrew, embraced the faith of Christ and were baptized Christians. At that time the emperor was the insane Nero, who had begun the first persecution of Christians. The Saint at a very young age is arrested because of her christian faith. Commander Mark tries with flattering reasons to persuade Iphigenia to deny Christ. But she vigorously confesses her faith in God. As a result, she tortured horrifically and being killed at just 15 years old.
The memory of Saint Iphigenia is briefly mentioned in "Agiasmatarion" published by Apostolic Diakonia at 1956 AD. Her memory is honored by our Church on November 16 of each year.
