Περιγραφη
Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint Peter the Apostle in pine wood with carved decoration.
Saint Peter the Apostle was one of the twelve disciples of Christ, originally from Bethsaida in Galilee. His original name was Simon and he was a fisherman by profession. Jesus called him Peter because he would be the stone on which he would build His church. At Lake Gennesaret he met Christ and became His faithful soldier.
Shortly before the Crucifixion of the Lord, Peter denied Ηim three times. Christ forgave His disciple and since then Peter has become a true rock of faith and a leading Apostle. He preached the Gospel in Jerusalem, Palestine, Greece and Egypt. In Rome, according to tradition, he died a martyr by crucifixion in 67 AD. Fragments of the Holy Relic of Saint Peter are found in the Monasteries of Iveron and Panteleimon of Mount Athos.
