Saint Nicholas Planas was born in 1851 AD. in Naxos by a rich but pious Christian family. He was the son of Ioannis Planas and Augustina Melissourgou. Nicholas grew up in a Christian environment and learned the first letters from his grandfather, the priest George Melissourgos. At the age of 14 and after being orphaned by his father, he went to Athens with his mother and sister. At the age of 17 he married Eleni Proveleggiou and had a son with her named Giannakis. Nicholas was unlucky to widow early and raised his child alone.

After the death of his wife, the Saint devoted himself to God and the Church. Initially, he was ordained a deacon in the church of the Transfiguration in Plaka and later, in 1884 AD, he was ordained an Elder in the church of Saint Elissaios in Monastiraki. Nicholas was distinguished for his simplicity, humility and austere life. He helped his poor fellow human beings and the miracles he performed were innumerable. At the age of 82, the Saint surrendered his soul to the Lord and was buried in the presence of thousands of believers.

The Orthodox Christian Church celebrates his memory on March 2 of each year.
