Saint Christina was born in Tyre of Syria around 200 AD. and was the daughter of General Urban. Her pagan father ordered her to sacrifice to the idols. The Saint refused and as a result Urban tortured her and threw her in prison. An angel of the Lord was feeding her and Christina did not die of hunger. Then, they threw her into the sea. The Saint again managed to be saved with the help of God.

After the death of her father, Christina was led to justice by a general named Dion. She confessed her Christian faith and suffered horrific torture. Saint Christina was martyred when Julian's soldiers beat her with sticks and killed her. Her remains were transported to Constantinople and placed in a temple built in her honor. The Orthodox Christian Church commemorates her on July 24 of each year.

Apolytikion of Saint Christina the Great Martyr

Fourth Tone

O Lord Jesus, unto Thee Thy lamb doth cry with a great voice: O my Bridegroom, Thee I love; and seeking Thee, I now contest, and with Thy baptism am crucified and buried. I suffer for Thy sake, that I may reign with Thee; for Thy sake I die, that I may live in Thee: accept me offered out of longing to Thee as a spotless sacrifice. Lord, save our souls through her intercessions, since Thou art great in mercy.
